Settings and running WireFlow

Backups, restoring and updates

How WireFlow keeps your data safe every night, how to get it back, and how updates are installed.

Backups

Every night WireFlow backs up the whole database: customers, jobs, diary, quotes, invoices and settings. With an active licence, an encrypted copy is also sent to WireFlow HQ, so your records survive even if your server doesn't.

Open System in the sidebar and find Backups:

  • Back up now takes a backup straight away.
  • Download database downloads a copy to your computer.
  • Download uploaded files downloads the photos, files and logos in a zip. These aren't in the database backup, so download them now and then too.
  • Off-site copy at WireFlow HQ shows when the last copy was sent. Send now makes a fresh backup and sends it.
  • Under the list, choose whether to Back up automatically every day, whether to Keep a copy at WireFlow HQ, and how many backups to keep on the server.
Nightly backups need the hourly job set up. See Install WireFlow on cPanel hosting.

Restoring a backup

Restoring replaces everything with the backup, so take a fresh backup first in case you need to go back.

On cPanel:

  1. Download the backup you want from System, Backups. It's a .sql.gz file.
  2. In cPanel, open phpMyAdmin and click your WireFlow database on the left.
  3. Click Import, choose the file and click Import (or Go) at the bottom.

If your server is lost, email us: we'll send you the latest off-site copy. Install WireFlow on the new server, restore that file into its database the same way, and activate your licence there.

Updates

When a new version is ready, System shows WireFlow X is available with what's new. Click Update now: WireFlow takes a backup first, installs the update and finishes the database changes by itself. It takes about a minute.

If Let WireFlow install updates we push to this install is on (under Settings, Licence), we can install important updates for you at the next hourly check-in.

Updating by hand

If you upload new files yourself:

  1. Take a backup and download it.
  2. Upload the new files over the old ones, keeping app/config.php and the storage folder.
  3. Sign in as an admin: WireFlow takes you to System. Click Run updates now.
